Sanghistorisk Arkiv er lydoptagelser af sang fra folkemunde, især fra Sønderjylland og Færøerne. Materialet er indsamlet af lektor og sanghistoriker Karl Clausen (1904-1972) i slutningen af 1950′erne og et stykke ind i 1960′erne. Clausen blev cand. mag. i tysk og med musik og dansk som bifag i 1928. Efter endt uddannelse underviste han en del år på københavnske gymnasier, derefter i mere end tyve år i korsang og kordirektion på Danmarks Lærerhøjskole. I 1963 blev han lektor ved Århus Universitet og grundlagde her Sanghistorisk Arkiv samtidig med at han opbyggede sanghistorie som et tværfagligt forskningsområde.
Til lydsamlingen knytter sig en samling af sang- og visebøger fra 1700-tallet til i dag med hovedvægt på Danmark, desuden også salmebøger og (folke)viseudgaver, sanghistorie og anden relevant faglitteratur, f.eks. musiketnologi, samfundshistorie, litteratur-, teater- og skolehistorie. Sanghistorisk Arkiv omfatter mere end 5.000 optagelser af sange.

The History of Songs Archive
The History of Songs Archive is a large collection of recordings of folk songs performed by the everyday person, mostly from the south of Jutland and the Faroe Islands. The material was collected by lecturer and musicologist Karl Clausen (1904-1972) in the late 1950’s and early 1960’s. In 1928 Karl Clausen took an MA in German with Music and Danish as minors. For a number of years he was a high school teacher at different grammer schools in Copenhagen, after which taught choir singing and conducting at Danmarks Lærerhøjskole (the Danish Teachers’ College) for more than twenty years. In 1963 he became a lecturer with the Musicological Department at Aarhus University where he founded The History of songs Archive. At the same time he developed song history as a cross-disciplinary research area.
In addition to the sound collection there is also a collection of songbooks from the 18th century and up till today with an emphasis of Denmark. There are also hymn books and ballad editions, song history and other relevant scientific literature like music ethnology, social sciences history, litteracy, theatre, and school history. The collection comprises of more than 5,000 song recordings. Composer and author of the songs are unknown but all performing singers are named and can be found in this database.
